Steve Bane has been teaching for four years, and is excited to begin his fifth year of teaching here at StarShine Academy. After graduating from GA State University in 2005, he began teaching 3rd Grade in Gwinnett County Schools, outside of Atlanta, GA. He quickly realized the lack of quality science education in the lower grades, and made it his mission to make Science hands-on and meaningful for all elementary students. During his first three years in the classroom, he worked with his own students and other educators in grades K-12 to develop comprehensive science units that integrated Reading, Writing, and Math into the subject. He spent his final year in Georgia working as a Science Specialist for grades K-5, and helping to teach over 800 teachers how they could teach effective science lessons in their own rooms.

 

Steve came to Arizona in 2009 and quickly found his home at StarShine. The school and its staff have such a passion for utilizing innovative and student-focused teaching techniques, that he knew this would be the place where he could continue his mission to re-imagine what a ?typical? classroom looks like. As the high school teacher, he has been blessed with the opportunity to work with a new age group, and deepen his own appreciation of how quality K-5 education can make a world of difference for older students in the middle and high school grade levels. He has also found a new passion for promoting StarShine Academy by helping to develop presentations for the public, and he hopes to expand that role moving forward.

 

It is not enough for students in one classroom to be getting top-notch education. Rather, it is Steve's goal to spread the StarShine ideas and methods to all teachers in all grade levels. He treasures the opportunities to help other educators make the impact in their rooms that he hopes to make in his own. He has had the opportunity to present his own work at local and state science education conferences, and is pleased to continue that tradition in the name of StarShine Academy. Each day promises new challenges and innovations, and StarShine is the perfect place to meet those challenges and see those innovations brought to life! This year promises to be his best year yet!
