Jennifer Douglas

Teacher

My name is Jennifer Douglas; some of you may have heard your children call me Miss Dougie.   I am exactly where I was meant to be here at StarShine.  I have found my calling as a teacher of future Doctors, Engineers, Artists and World Peace makers.  I grew up in an area like the neighborhood where StarShine is located.   I was raised in the same culture as most of our students are born into.  I have a connection with the students in my class and all across the campus that can not be taught.

This is my second year at StarShine, the first year I was student teaching at the Jr. High grade level.  I am now teaching 2nd and 3rd grade.  I graduated from N.A.U. with my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education.  In the spring I will be starting my Graduate degree at A.S.U. in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education.  Eventually I plan to continue my education to work on my doctorate degree.

I found StarShine in a very unique way.  My daughter wanted to buy me a gift for Mother’s Day.  I am an avid reader and so we headed straight for the bookstore.  I found the book Come Back, by Mia Fontaine, and had about three other books in my hand trying to decide.  I finally choose that book and read it in a matter of days.  I was so moved by the story; I too have a family member whose life is consumed by addiction.  At the end of the story StarShine and our founder Trish McCarty were mentioned.  I looked up the school right away and the rest is history.

This school is special.  The entire staff has something to give of themselves everyday to our amazing students.  The philosophy by which our school was designed around makes sense.  Students who attend here will flourish and become someone we all will be proud to stand behind.
